TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie Takes on US Air Marshall Despite Hurricane Gustav
September 2008, New Orleans, LA - Despite Hurricane Gustav and the mandatory evacuation of New Orleans, hotelier Mike Dunkle, Madison Park Hotels COO Executive Vice President, kept the TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie open for the US Air Marshall.
Hurricane Gustav traveled up through the Bahamas with his sight set on New Orleans early this week. Fearing that another Katrina was on its way, the city was given a mandatory evacuation to protect the citizens safety.
With all intentions of closing the TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie property, like all other area hotels were doing, the GM of the TownePlace Suites got a phone call. It was the US Air Marshall that said they needed to book the entire hotel for three days.
Although the hotel was about to decline the offer, the owners decided to stay open to proudly serve the US Air Marshall. After accepting the business, the staff at the TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie carefully prepared the hotel for an evacuation plan for impending Hurricane Gustav.
With Hurricane Gustav about to strike, Dunkle developed a master plan, assembled survival supplies and equipment, and researched a back-road route to avoid the main highway contraflow.
Dunkle arrived to the TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie the day before Hurricane Gustav was set to hit and took over the 125-room property on his own. He managed all rooms and ensured the US Air Marshall had adequate accommodations to focus on assisting the regions communitys preparations for the storm.
In the wake of Hurricane Gustav, Mike wandered the TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie closing windows, repositioning mattresses, rerouting water penetrations, all without any form of communication to the outside world due to cell signal and power disruption.
The TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie is proud to have served its community in the face of Hurricane Gustav, during what could have been another major tragedy. For more information about the TownePlace Suites New Orleans Metairie, please visit http://www.Marriott.com/MSYTM.
